10th International Conference BDA 2022 IIIT Hyderabad
A large number of languages are still not present on the Internet. It is estimated that out of the world’s approximately 6,700 languages, just 10 of them make
up 84.3 per cent of people using the Internet, with English and Chinese the dominant
languages, accounting for 52 per cent of Internet users worldwide.
This vast linguistic divide will only exacerbate the existing digital and knowledge
divides, so it is obvious that everyone should have access to a multilingual Internet.
Speakers of non-dominant languages need to be able to express themselves in culturally meaningful ways on the Internet in their choice of language. The Internet should be a multilingual and culturally diverse place where every culture and language has its own space.

WORKSHOP 10TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
BDA 2022 IIIT HYDERABAD
BIG DATA ANALYTICS (BDA) 2022 WORKSHOP IIIT HYDERABAD
Universal Acceptance is a foundational requirement for a truly multilingual Internet,
one in which users around the world can navigate entirely in local languages. Ideally,
every person should be able to use Internet / Email services; however language is a big
hurdle to get people online. Those who cannot understand English are largely deprived
from the Internet services.
Universal Acceptance is the tool so that people can use the
Internet and its services in their local languages. It is also the key to unlocking the
potential of new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) to foster competition, consumer
choice and innovation in the domain name industry. Hence, Universal Acceptance is the key to the expansion of the Internet as it ensures
that new domain extensions and email addresses can be used by all Internet enabled
applications, devices and system. Universal Acceptance addresses an issue without
which it will be difficult to successfully complete any online transaction in any language
other than English.
